The six-piece band Phoenician Drive is going to release their debut album next week but you can now listen to it exclusively, below. Formed in 2015 by Chilean percussionist Diego Moscoso with the intention to make drums and fuzzy guitars meet with oud, derbuka and other Eastern percussions, he soon gathered musicians with very different backgrounds in order to make it happen. This new record follows their debut EP Two Coins (2017) that emancipated their name in the musical parades of the psych-rock and world music scene.
With this new Phoenician Drive LP, the group based in Brussels creates a hypnotic trance based on distorted oriental grooves that drink some influences from the earlier East-West musical blendings from the 70’s, the German kraut-rock scene (Neu!, Can, Faust,…) and some of the 60’s soundtracks compositions. The full LP can be streamed below. We recommend you listen to the gems such as “Almadraba”, “Musselove”, “Aguas Del Ouvido” and “Slowfish”.
Phoenician Drive is out on October 12, through EXAG Records and SK Records. Pre-order it here.
