It was back in April that Jeff Clark’s – a duo made up of Charly Loyer (compositions, arrangements, vocals and live guitar) and Guillaume Jean (live bass, arrangements) – released Miserable Star, a four-track EP betting on the synthesizers and machine ambiance strength, without ever neglecting a whole dark aesthetic rounded by an incendiary power. In spite of the typical noir imagery that Jeff Clark’s portray, their compositions are made up in a way that allows light and energy to break in. Constructing their own environment with influences ranging from The Soft Moon, She Past Away or Skeleton Hands, the duo is now back with the first music video extracted from Miserable Star: “From Earth To Mars”.

Placing ourselves before a world influenced by dark-techno ambiances in “From Earth To Mars” Jeff Clark’s offers us a new vision of the modern world not only with the imagery that it depicts but also through the lyrics where the sentence “Stop wearing a mask” is on repeat. In addition to the masks, strongly present in the design of the EP – especially in the incredible artwork accompanying the album – Jeff Clark’s shows us that they are not that shy (appearing briefly in some cuts of the video) and that its sound is deeply intense.

The video for “From Earth To Mars” was realized by Isthmaël Baudry and can be watched first-hand below.

Jeff Clark’s started exploring these dark, cold, and hypnotic atmospheres with the debut EP Confused (2017) but definitely intends to leave a mark with Miserable Star their first effort in the catalog of one of the most influential labels in the French darkwave panorama, Manic Depression Records. Released on April, 10th in digital format the EP can be purchased here for the amount you want.
